Mobile FAQ
How do I know if I need a Plantronics Headset Adapter?
First, a headset adapter is not required if your cellular, PCS or cordless phone is headset-ready, i.e., equipped with a 2.5mm jack for plugging a headset directly into the phone. For cellular and PCS phones that are not headset-ready, you will need a headset adapter with a built-in headset jack. Plantronics offers two different types of headset adapters. The first one is a headset adapter that provides a portable hands-free solution for use in the car or outside of the car. These adapters are identified by the WTA model prefix, e.g., WTA-NK610. The second type is a cigarette lighter adapter for in-car use that allows you to drive with both hands on the wheel while charging your phone's battery. These adapters are identified by the CLA model prefix, e.g., CLA-MOT.
How do I identify the model number of my phone?
If the model number does not appear on the front of the phone you can typically find it by removing the phone's battery and looking at the label that appears on the backplate of the phone.
Some phones are equipped with headset jacks. Other phones require headset adapters with built-in headset jacks. Are different headsets required for headset-ready phones versus phones requiring headset adapters?
No. Plantronics Hands-Free Mobile Headsets have been designed and tested for use in either situation.
What are some important factors to consider in purchasing a headset adapter?
1. Compatibility in all modes you plan to use your phone. Performance can vary significantly between analog and digital modes.
2. Compatibility with phone's battery. In some phones the battery can be damaged if not charged properly.
3. Durability. Will the plug/connector survive multiple insertions without breaking? After exposure to high heat or vibration, will the adapter continue to work properly?
4. Mechanical Fit. Does the adapter easily connect to the phone? Does it stay in-place until you want to remove it? Is it easy to remove?
Plantronics' headset adapters are designed and tested with all the above in mind to ensure customer satisfaction and a positive experience.
In the future can we expect more handset manufacturers to add headset jacks to their phones?
Yes! More and more manufacturers are responding to customers' requests for easy-to-install, hands-free communications. That means plug-and-play solutions that work right out of the box. Check out Plantronics Telephone Compatibility Guide for the M Series Mobile Headsets for cellular, PCS and cordless phones with built-in jacks. We expect this list to grow significantly in the future, and will do our best to update it regularly.
And, one more time, what are the key benefits of using a Plantronics Hands-Free Mobile Headset with a mobile phone?
Starting with Plantronics' standard of quality and proven reliability, Plantronics Hands-Free Mobile Headsets also offer:
Hands-Free Safety - Talk and drive with both hands firmly on the steering wheel
Crystal Clear Calls - Noise-cancelling microphone, a standard feature on all Plantronics Hands-Free Mobile Headsets, eliminates distracting background noise so people will hear you loud and clear even in crowded airports, busy streets or from your convertible
Simple, Inexpensive and Superior Sound - A hands-free solution without the cost, installation and notorious sound of a speakerphone
Increased Comfort - Talk longer without the discomfort of cradling the phone between your head and shoulder
Hands-Free Productivity - In the office or on the run, carry on conversations while keeping both hands free to do other tasks
Energy Efficient - Plantronics headsets consume less than 500 microamperes in normal use which means an extremely small amount of energy is required to operate the headset. Drain on your phone's battery is insignificant
How about some tips on installing a Plantronics headset adapter?
All the adapters have been designed to easily plug into the accessory connector of your phone. The headset then simply plugs into the 2.5mm jack of the adapter.
