HeadMouse® Extreme replaces a standard computer mouse for people who cannot use their hands. It operates from the top of a computer monitor, laptop computer, or augmentative communication device, and measures the user's head movements. The wireless sensing technology employs infrared light to track a small disposable target that is placed on the user's forehead or glasses. HeadMouse Extreme provides a wide field-of-view and superior precision, supporting even graphics-intensive applications like drawing and computer aided design.
When used with mouse button software, such as Origin Instruments' Dragger™, mouse clicks are performed by positioning the pointer and dwelling for a selectable period of time. Alternately, selections can be performed using an adaptive switch, such as the Origin Instruments Sip/Puff Switch, or even through use of speech recognition software. HeadMouse Extreme also comes with a built-in infrared receiver that provides optional wireless connections for adaptive switches. A Wireless Switch Transmitter is available for wireless transfer of adaptive switch inputs from a wheelchair to the integrated receiver.
HeadMouse Extreme connects to the computer or augmentative communication device through a USB port and operates using standard mouse drivers. The HeadMouse is powered by the host device, over the USB connection. The integrated electronic tilt sensor automatically adapts to even the most unusual mounting requirements.
When used with an on-screen keyboard such as SofType™ or KeyStrokes™, HeadMouse provides head-controlled access to all of the full range of functions for both keyboard and mouse, and to thousands of standard personal computer applications including Internet access.
A variety of optional HeadMouse Extreme mounts are available for notebook computers, flat panel displays and Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC) devices. If a mount for your needs is not currently shown, please inform us of your requirements.
